Harvey House

Construction History
1868. Construction of the house began behind Isaac's store at the corner of Gabilan and Main Streets, and consisted of 5 bedrooms (3 upstairs), double parlors, a sitting room, a dining room, and a porch.  1873. House was moved to a larger lot at 138 Monterey Street to include cookhouse, outbuildings, garden and fruit trees. The picture was taken in 1873 when the house was just completed; family present include Isaac, Sarah, Benton, wife, and kids, Sophronia and Nathan Clark, Josephine, possibly celebrating the wedding of Sophronia to Nathan Clark.




1890s. Daughter Mabel moved into House with husband Frank Baker and raises her family (2 girls and 1 boy). Extensive alterations were made during this period including, covering wallpaper with batten and plaster, wiring for electricity, installing indoor plumbing, constructing bathroom between bedrooms downstairs, extending house extended to include breezeway.  In addition, the kitchen was constructed and cookhouse was pushed back on lot to use as in-law cottage.








1939. Salinas grew to expand the House; both house and cottage moved to 238 Romie Lane.
